How we gonna get them free! So they can help us all get free! (2x) There’s a beautiful man who grew up on Pittsburgh’s Northside When he was 14, he was in the vicinity of a homicide He was a loveable young man; that’s what they tell me And he’s a hell of a good man now; that’s what I see This innocent boy was accused of a murder and charged with a crime Sent away to State Prison, and sentenced to die inside So year after year he fought for his freedom as the time went by ‘Til they had to let him out, ‘cause he had been convicted as a juvenile But he never got bitter, ‘cause he isn’t a quitter, and he fights with a smile In the State of Pennsylvania that’s happy to see good people like him inside 38 years were stolen from his precious life But this man is a mountain; and he’s out here shinin’ bright Death by Incarceration! Shame on the nation It’s not enough to know. It’s not enough to cry Death by Incarceration! Stain on the reputation of the nation, and it’s population Don’t pretend you’re blind. It’s time! to get it right On my very first trip to SCI Cambridge Springs I knew nothin’ ‘bout prison except what I had seen on tv But there I sat in a room that looked somethin’ like a greyhound station Automats in the corner; like a breakroom from the Jetsons I waited in anticipation in my plastic seat Who was I about to meet? Would I do and say the right things? Someone said I looked worried, as I sat there nervously Then a woman walked up to the desk. Someone said, that’s Marsha I stood, and she smiled as she turned around to approach me Then she walked right up and she give me a hug full of Christ-like love Now all my nervousness is gone This woman’s love shines like the sun And she’s shinin’ on and on Sentenced to Death by Incarceration! Victim of a human rights violation! Shinin like the sun. Shinin on and on My G-d! She’s not the only one Death by Incarceration! Shame on the nation It’s not enough to know. It’s not enough to cry Death by Incarceration! Stain on the reputation of the nation, and it’s population Don’t pretend you’re blind. It’s time! to get it right So how we gonna get them free! So they can help us all get free!

Miracle of the Rose! Lady of the Flowers! Bring the beautiful blooms into the light We want our loved ones out here in plain sight On the 10th day of the 10th month, settlin’ in To the season of sin Pets are on vacation. Second summer’s ending But I see the blossoms breaking Yeah the roses are comin’ again Oh I see them openin’ And I give thanks to the power that’s sendin’ them Again and again For bein' a friend Yeah I see them openin’ Christ will come again some day, it’s an assertion A matter of faith to date. Some are waiting for Christ to come for the first time Christ has come already; but we act like They haven’t And the roses are comin’ today Yeah I see them openin’ A good person dies in prison near enough to everyday In a nation that speaks of freedom with a history of enslavement Unjust Captivity is a crime. Don’t act like it’s ok Don’t let another undeserving person stay locked away for even a day Miracle of the Rose! Lady of the Flowers! Bring the beautiful blooms into the light We want our loved ones out here in plain sight Then we can celebrate; and sing “When we fight, we win” And watch the roses openin’ Again and again and again (4x) Openin'

Walk in the way of the clown A bum thumb to gum up the dum-dum gun Walk in the way of the funny one, in and out of heaven Walk in the way of the funny one, in and out of heaven Clowns in the hospital Clowns in the streets and the school Clowns goin’ in and out of heaven Walk in the way of the fool All the men say, life is a war I heard mother say, life is a war Money says it, and the scared strong man Losin’ it all, determined not to lose it all But the clown says, life is play Exercising the privilege of play Who is the clown? Where is the clown? In the streets and the school, on sacred ground Playin’ through pain, playin’ through shame Playin’ through changes in the name and the aim of the game Mother is the clown Brother is the clown Grandparents are clowns Grandparents are clowns Two-spirit, is life a war? Can you show us a safe place to pray? Can you lead us to the gates of play? Open the door! What is this war we’ll pretend to be making? Naked out of dreamland! Where are the clowns to get the place shakin’? Mother is the clown Brother is the clown Grandparents are clowns Grandparents are clowns Walk in the way of the clown A bum thumb to gum up the dum-dum gun Walk in the way of the funny one, in and out of heaven We are the clowns. In and out of heaven

You won’t be able to genuflect. You won’t be able to sing You won’t be able to celebrate the life behind all things A camera’s always watching you, and the lights are always on And day after day you never talk to anyone You won’t be able to exercise. You won’t be able to pray And when you wake up and the lights are on it’s still the same old day You let a liar in your home. And you let him use your phone Someone is usin’ you for something Seems that means you’ll be alone If you’re feelin super righteous and just a little bold You won’t believe the stories ‘bout you that are bein’ told If you’re feelin’ real religious and you’re feelin’ like a freak If you feel like you’re on acid and you’re just about to peak If you’re singin’ the wrong prayers, if you’re wearin’ the wrong hat You won’t need a razor blade and you won’t need a baseball bat To land in solitary confinement, solitary confinement someday Solitary confinement, solitary confinement someday Demonize you like 666 Terrorize you and call you a terrorist Dehumanize you and put you through No human being, that’s what someone thinks of you If you’re feelin’ real inspired. If you feel like speakin’ up If someone thinks you’re frameable they might just take you up And if you can’t be quiet as an answer to abuse Don’t think noone’s listenin who thinks that you won’t do To add to a statistic, to fuel a point of view Once your name is known. Once your face is seen Plastic people can be shaped into believin’ anything If you’re askin’ the wrong questions and you forget to hide If you offer hospitality to someone from the other side You can be dehumanized in TV hearts and eyes Once your name is known. Once your face is seen If you care about your family. If you care about your faith If you care about your neighbors and you care about your place If you wanna lead a discussion or even organize one You won’t need a bomb and you won’t even need a gun To land in solitary confinement, solitary confinement someday Solitary confinement, solitary confinement someday Demonize you like 666 Terrorize you and call you a terrorist Dehumanize you and put you through You won’t be able to genuflect, you won’t be able to sing You won't be able to celebrate the life behind all things You won’t be allowed to exercise, you won’t be allowed to pray And how will you be punished when they say that you don’t obey They’ll add to your sentence another day And another day, and another day, and another day, and another day ‘Til you’re in solitary confinement, solitary confinement to stay

Dummy Dartz 04:08
Dummy dartz hit proving ground Wasted space with no one around We are no one, hear no sound Everything outside the ground Proving ground in pasture land Mountain pass and desert sand Proving ground in bluff and blight Moving blanks at the break of light Dummy missiles ascend, descend like gaming dartz Dummy surgery is playing a game with body parts Animal, neanderthals, expendables break forth in song Passing past, oh past is passing, rocks can hear the dirt has lungs Proof of proving ground success is broadcast as acknowledgement Radios with waiting ears are missed by no one’s everywhere Nobody hears no report but notes the flight of dummy dartz Nobody hears everything and says nothin’ Animals, neanderthals, expendables dance and release Passing past, oh past is passing. Rocks can hear, the dirt can rest in peace!

Crazy Life 08:32
Crazy life, I’m talkin’ to you In a song, ‘cause that’s how I talk to you Music fillin’ up the space Molecules more expressive than a face In our little corner of the world We can see everything In our little corner of the world What can we do but sing Crazy life, I’m singin to thee I love to see you dancin’ all around me Singin’ to you ‘til I’m losin’ myself As the song gets swallowed in your bottomless well In every little corner of the world You’re cryin’ feel me, feel me, feel me Open your mouth and sing This is the real me, real me, real me, real me Crazy life, I’m singin’ to thee I love to see you dancin’ all around me Crazily bright, amazingly queer It’s laughter, laughter, laughter wrapped up in a tear

Close prisons! Close prisons comin’ in from the country Tearin’ the heart right out of the country Close prisons up in my city face Suckin’ the spirit right out of the place Lock up the kid, lock up the leader, lock up the savior In a bright white, fluorescent light torture chamber Close prisons! Close prisons terminally near Keep bumpbumpbumpin’ into them everywhere Close prisons lockin’ up my friends When will this fuckin’ insanity end? Lock up the kid, lock up the leader, lock up the savior In a bright white, fluorescent light torture chamber Close prisons! Close prisons, burn them to the ground Set all the captives loose in the town Teachers and leaders, princesses and clowns Come on down, come on down, come on down, come on down And close prisons!

about

Proceeds from the sale of this album will be donated to Let's Get Free: Women and Trans Prisoner Defense Committee. This album is a prayer with the intention of seeing an end to Death by Incarceration in Pennsylvania, the nation and the world. It unites with a radical clearing house of the PA state prison system and prisons and jails everywhere. First and foremost it unites with a sincere review of each individual serving Life without the possibility of Parole(Death by Incarceration) with the sincere best interest of all in mind. The question should be asked with each, "is prison really the appropriate place for the person here before me?"Disappearing people for unjust lenghts of captivity is unacceptable, and this practice should not be allowed to persist through inertia. This album is a tribute to the many people suffering under a DBI sentence who have transformed themselves into truly exceptional human beings with large hearts and a purpose to heal themselves, those around them and society at large. It also offers thanks to all those out here working towards collective liberation and healing after being released from long sentences. So many high caliber beings demonstrate the absurdity of holding good people in captivity for cruel lengths of time.
It is time for society to come together and say this is not ok. It is time to make the liberation of unjustly imprisoned people a priority! it is time to liberate our family members from remote rural dungeons and allow them to go home! We want our teachers and leaders back.
We thank James YaYa Hough for providing the painting for the album's cover. All of his work is amazing, intense, truth-telling, challenging and transformative. Check out more of his work on instagram at hough9459
